Washing routine & laundry perfume: 10 tips for brilliantly clean laundry
A mother-armada in the laundry room, that much is certain! 😅 Every week there is a pile of dirty laundry shining in the corner of the bathroom. But with the right approach, doing the laundry becomes a breeze. In this blog, I give you 10 smart and sustainable laundry tips. From choosing the best detergent to a touch of luxury with Fabulosa laundry perfume. Grab the laundry basket, straighten those socks, and let’s go!
Tip 1: Sort your laundry (yes, really do it)
Nothing as frustrating as pink socks among the white laundry (been there, done that!). Always start by separating color and dirtiness. Make separate piles: white laundry, light colors, dark clothes, and towels. This way you prevent your favorite jeans from taking on all the colors. Bed linen with dirty socks? Preferably wash separately to avoid odor spreading. Bonus tip: Fill the machine per color. Your washing machine works most efficiently with a full drum (both in terms of energy and water consumption!).
Tip 2: Check your pockets and close everything
This sounds logical, but believe me: I know the debate. We always allow fifteen minutes of trash-talking before everyone goes to the washing machine. "No more phone, mom can call non-stop!" 😉 Take everything out (coins, papers, old chewing gum 💔), because the spin block can get blocked or your sock might come out damaged from the wash. Zippers closed, buttons closed, and never find a wet bill in your wallet again. Safe and hardcore laundry action!
Tip 3: Choose your detergent smartly
Which detergent? There are tons of options, but I like to choose natural. Try for example the organic detergent from The Pink Stuff or their colorfast laundry gel. These milder formulas are gentle on your clothes and the environment. Watch the dosage: less than you think is often enough. Detergent in the drawer, and for powder detergent, a tap spin in the wash basin also dissolves well. Tip: don’t set the washing machine too hot (30°C is often enough, unless heavily soiled)! A handy set also includes detergent and stain remover together, ideal for busy moms.
Tip 4: Stain remover within reach
Dude, my kid just played Tarzan and decorated his shirt with banana stains and mud splatters. 😲 Pre-treating is the secret. Spray or dab a little The Pink Stuff Oxi spray (safe for colored laundry) on the spot and let it soak for a minute. For really stubborn dark stains, I sometimes use the Oxi White powder (for white laundry). Then just put the garment in the machine with the rest. Hello, spotless baby rompers and tuxedo outfits!
Tip 5: Laundry perfume: how and when to use?
The magical cherry on the laundry cake: laundry perfume! 🤩 No wonder I’m a fan of Fabulosa Fresh Linen or Precious Gold. This is not a fabric softener, but a scent enhancer: you drip it into the wash during the rinse cycle. Just 10-15 ml extra perfume alongside your normal detergent dosing ritual (tip: look for the red line on the bottle). Your laundry becomes wonderfully soft and long-lasting fresh, without sticky residues on your clothes. Tip: Skip the pre-wash or short wash, otherwise you wash the perfume away immediately!
Tip 6: Washing temperature and program
Many people think washing hot is the cleanest, but the truth is: not always necessary. T-shirts, underwear, and daily laundry get perfectly clean at 30°C to 40°C. Heavily soiled or stained linens can get a 60°C program (if your washing machine has that). Always do a full but not overloaded drum – washing as much textile as possible at once saves water and energy. Because yes, sustainable washing = fewer machine cycles (and a happier wallet). 🤑
Tip 7: Dry your laundry as environmentally friendly as possible
Hang as much as possible outside or indoors on a drying rack. That’s fresh and saves electricity (sorry, dryer!). In spring and summer, I even use dryer balls in the machine, so an air drying fest doesn’t cause too many wrinkles. Are you stuck in emergency with laughing gas cold rain? Then do a dryer shot at 40°C or the “wool” program – that’s gentler on your laundry and saves a drying drum. For extra scent, you can use Fabulosa dryer sheets or a splash of laundry perfume in the ironing water for cotton clothes. (And pssst, put socks that always get lost in a laundry bag, otherwise your dryer mixes everything into one sock paradise!)
Tip 8: Clean the washing machine
Nothing as annoying as a musty smell from your machine. Regularly a wash with warm water and some cleaning vinegar is good, but even better: once a month a washing machine cleaner. For example Fabulosa washing machine cleaner (there is also a fresh spring scent). Put it directly in the drum at 60°C and it dissolves lime and mold. This keeps the machine fresh and prevents dirt from leaking onto your new laundry. Bet that after the first round you forget that “oh, it’s just water” smell?
Tip 9: The final touch of ironing perfume
Want extra luxury? Spray a little Fabulosa In-Wash Boost (Rainbow) or a home perfume on your freshly ironed shirts and curtains after ironing. It brings color and cheerfulness and a touch of spring into the house. Do this especially on (long) dry laundry, otherwise the scent evaporates. Small effort, big result: your fresh laundry will linger for weeks in your closet.
Tip 10: Smell, enjoy and repeat
Ta-da, the laundry is dry, the scent is top, and the clean pile waits until we dare something again. 😊 Give yourself a pat on the back: with these tips you have not only saved energy but also made your laundry routine much happier. A reassurance: next week there will simply be a new round of laundry (kids 👶👧👦!), but now you know exactly what to do. Do a little dance (with washcloth in hand) and enjoy your freshly washed clothes. Have a nice laundry day!
